5 Biggest Fantasy Football Sleeper Picks from 2008
December 2nd 2008 00:27
Looking back on the 2008 NFL season I keep seeing some great Fantasy Football Sleepers I wish I had picked up. Being gifted with 20/20 hindsight I now see how my 2008 Fantasy Football Draft should have went. So I will now share with you the top Fantasy Football Sleepers of the 2008 NFL season. I am writing this during week 14 of the NFL season so the stats will be to this point. All stats used in this article come from NFL.com.
1 Kurt Warner was thought to be past time for the scrap heap and cannon fodder in case Matt Leinart went down. When Leinart tanked and Warner was given the starting job in Arizona, he flourished into an MVP candidate. Kurt Warner to this point in 2008 has passed for 3,741 yards, 24 touchdown passes and only 11 interceptions.
2 Michael Turner left Ladainian Tomlinson’s shadow in San Diego and went to the Falcons few except me predicted his monster season. In 12 Games Michael Turner has put up huge Fantasy Football Numbers. He has rushed for 1,208 yards and 13 touchdowns for the surprising Atlanta Falcons.
3 Roddy White never seemed to develop any talent in Atlanta until rookie Matt Ryan showed up. Now the 4th year Wide Receiver is having a breakout Fantasy Football Season. In 12 games so far in 2008 he has 68 receptions for 1,085 yards and 6 touchdowns. Imagine what the Roddy White/Matt Ryan combo will do next year with more experience together.
4 Matt Forte a rookie running back for the Chicago Bears stepped into the starting role and took off with it. At this point he has 1,012 yards, a 4.1 yards per rush average and 6 touchdowns. Was is really amazing though is his 48 pass receptions and 4 touchdown receptions. Rookie Running Backs are seldom allowed on the field in passing situations because they tend to get Quarterbacks killed with missed blocks.
5 DeAngelo Williams was thought to be a part time scat back type of player for the Carolina Panthers. The drafting of Jonathan Stewart indicated that once again he would take a backseat to the feature back. But DeAngelo Williams has held off a good back in Stewart and is flourishing. Averaging a great 4.9 yards per carry Williams has 955 yards and 11 touchdowns so far in 2008, making him a definite Fantasy Football Sleeper
