2910 NFL Power Rankings
May 20th 2010 23:53
• Welcome to my 2010 NFL power rankings. I am ranking the 32 NFL teams from last to first in my first power rankings after the 2010 NFL draft. These rankings of NFL teams are based on last year's record, this year's draft and the free agent moves of each team. From time to time in my 2010 NFL power rankings you will see links to other articles pertaining to some of the teams, please check those out as well.
32 St. Louis Rams
The Rams are the worst team on my 2010 NFL power rankings, first edition. They sucked last year and didn't help themselves much in the free agency period. Sam Bradford will be thrown to the wolves, I think and this team can't support a rookie quarterback.
Tampa is taking advantage of no salary cap to also use the no salary floor. Team management does not want to win and they won't. I liked their draft but they got even worse in free agency.
30 Buffalo Bills
The Bills did draft Spiller who I had ranked as the best running back coming into the 2010 NFL draft.. But the Bills needed offensive linemen in the worst way. Buffalo was pretty silent in the free agent market as well. I actually like the hire of Chan Gaily but I think the Bills drop even farther back in the pack during 2010.
29 Detroit Lions
The Lions had a nice draft and were fairly active in free agency. I wish they had addressed the offensive line more but I think their defense will be much improved.
28 Denver Broncos
Denver continues to trade away players and not replace them adequately. Unless Tim Tebow plays like Steve Young, the Broncos are really hurting in 2010. They have just gotten rid of too many weapons.
27 Kansas City Chiefs
I like the addition of Thomas Jones by free agency and Eric Berry in the draft. But Kansas City didn't spend much thought on rebuilding a bad offensive line. Thus my Chiefs rank 27 in my 2010 NFL power rankings, first edition.
The Raiders had a nice 2010 NFL draft and if Jason Campbell starts at quarterback, this team will improve on their 2009 record.
25 Cleveland Browns
I did like some of their moves but having to choose from Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace or Colt McCoy at quarterback will screw the Browns.
24 Washington Redskins
Mike Shanahan is the new coach and Donovan McNabb is the new quarterback. I like both those moves but the offensive line is in shambles and the running backs are ancient. Maybe Willie Parker and Larry Johnson can do something but I think that Clinton Portis is done in Washington. The Skins also like old receivers now, working out Joey Porter then signing Joey Galloway.
23 Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have been having a fire sale on veteran players and ticking off their fans. Carolina has the offense to be a playoff team if either Matt Moore or Jimmy Clausen steps up. The defense is young and suspect on the defensive line. Carolina could go 10-6 or 6-10 in the 2010 NFL season.
22 Chicago Bears
The Bears were aggressive in free agency to cover for their lack of draft picks due to the Cutler Trade. Julius Peppers joins the defense along with another former Panthers, safety Chris Harris (trade) and Chester Taylor the former Vikings running back was added to the defense. Mike Martz will have his work cut out for him with the Bears offensive line and wide receivers though.
21 Seattle Seahawks
I really liked the Seahawks draft as you can see here. I also liked their aggressiveness in trades to stock their running back position. I just wonder if NFL players will put out for Pete Carroll.
20 Jacksonville Jaguars
I like them not giving into local pressure to draft Tim Tebow. The Jags had a decent off season but their draft was suspect, other than not going for Tebow with the 10th pick.
19 Tennessee Titans
The Titans finished strong in 2009 but their off season wasn't great and Chris Johnson is unhappy with his contract.
18 Pittsburgh Steelers
If the Steelers can get their quarterback situation under control while Big Ben learns to keep little Ben in his pants, I think they will be ok in 2009. The Steelers could rally and play well without Ben but I doubt it.
17 Arizona Cardinals
If Leinart can produce then the Cardinals will be decent on offense but their defense sucks.
16 Atlanta Falcons
I think Atlanta could have helped their team by going after Anquan Boldin or another good receiver. The Falcons are hard to figure but I think Turner got old fast and Ryan needs to step up this season.
15 Philadelphia Eagles
If Kolb can produce now the McNabb is gone, then the offense should be decent. I still think their running backs and offensive line are below average.
14 New York Giants
If the Giants can get their once great defensive line back to a high level then they will be fine.
13 New England Patriots
Great coach, great quarterback and not much else in my opinion for the 2010 NFL power rankings. New England could go 12-4 or 8-8 its hard to say at this point.
12 Cincinnati Bengals
I probably ranked the Bengals too high but they did sweep the Ravens and Steelers last season.
11 Miami Dolphins
If the Dolphins can get their running game going with Williams and Brown (if he is on the team during the season) they should be ok.
10 San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers quietly had a good off season and I loved their draft. Playing in a crappy division will help the most improved 2010 NFL team.
9 Houston Texans
I think the Texans are going to have a special year in 2010. I really love the offense if they can limit turnovers.
8 San Diego Chargers
One of the best looking teams on paper despite the loss of LaDainian Tomlinson. However they have no heart come playoff time.
7 Green Bay Packers
The Packers had a nice draft and addressed the offensive line that really hurt them last season. If the cornerbacks don't break a hip due to old age, then Green Bay will have a great season in 2010.
6 Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings with Brett Favre rank 6th in my NFL Power Rankings. If Favre retires again they will drop like a rock. Minnesota is getting old on defense and Peterson fumbles too much on offense.
5 Dallas Cowboys
Dallas went out on a limb for Dez Bryant but didn't help an offensive line that will get Romo killed in 2010. I do like the defense but the offense will struggle with pass protection.
4 New York Jets
A common Super Bowl pick by many experts, the Jets come in 7th in my NFL power rankings. Mark Sanchez wasn't all that great in 2009 and has to prove something this year. LaDainian Tomlinson isn't as good as Thomas Jones. The defense will be nasty though.
3 Indianapolis Colts
They still have Peyton Manning but their offensive line is still suspect as is the defense.
2 Baltimore Ravens
Anquan Boldin probably will put the Ravens in the Super Bowl. I really like the Ravens if their defense has a year left in their old legs.
1 New Orleans Saints
Until somebody beats them they have the belt! New Orleans offense is good enough to win any game and the defense is better than average in my opinion.
Thanks for reading my 2010 NFL Power Rankings.
