Welcome to the 3rd round of my 2009 NFL mock draft, you can see rounds one and two by clicking the profile. Round one of the 2009 NFL mock draft has been revised. Feel free to check my profile for other articles about football including free agency and position rankings for the 2009 NFL draft.
1 Detroit Lions- Rhett Bomar QB Sam Houston State
Just a tad on the short side at 6ft 2 and had some off the field concerns in his college career. However Bomar could be a steal and sit the bench a year or two and possibly do well in the future.
2 Saint Louis Rams- William Beatty OT Connecticut
Beatty could add some strength and bulk to his 6ft6 frame and if he does, he will be a solid NFL player for the Rams.
3 Kansas City Chiefs- Louis Murphy WR Florida
The Chiefs need another young receiver to go with Bowe in new coach Haley’s offense.
4 Seattle Seahawks- Michael Hamlin S Clemson
A smart, tall safety who is a solid tackler, he could be a starter as a rookie for the Seahawks.
5 Dallas Cowboys -Graham Harrell QB Texas Tech
Harrell has some issues with his mechanics but has the football smarts to overcome them with a good qb coach. Romo needs a backup who could push him in s season or two and Harrell is the man.
6 Cincinnati Bengals- Javon Ringer RB Michigan State
The Bengals need help at running back and Ringer could fit in well with this offense in 2009 and beyond. Ringer is probably too small to be a 25 carry a game back but he could thrive on 10-15 carries and 3 or 4 catches a game.
7 Oakland Raiders- Max Unger C Oregon
Unger is 6ft 5 inches tall and has experience at several offensive line positions. Versatility is the name of the game on NFL offensive line.
8 Jacksonville Jaguars- Pat White WR West Virginia
Look for White to play in a slash type package as a runner, receiver or passer. Could also return some kicks for the Jaguars.
9 Green Bay Packers- Victor Harris CB Virginia Tech
Adds some young legs to an old defensive backfield for the Packers.
10 San Francisco 49ers- Jairus Byrd CB Oregon
Byrd has a nose for the ball and breaks up lots of passes and isn’t afraid to mix it up stopping the run game.
11 Buffalo Bills- Andre Brown RB North Carolina State
With Lynch’s legal troubles it only makes sense for the Bills to jump on the best running back left on the board.
12 Denver Broncos- Sean Smith CB Utah
Denver adds much needed secondary help as they continue to go for defense in my 2009 NFL mock draft.
13 Washington Redskins- Evander Hood DT Missouri
Hood can get to the passer at times and the Skins need D line help in the worst way.
14 New York Jets- Asher Allen CB Georgia
Allen has some tackling ability which he will need under Coach Ryan.
15 Houston Texans- Anthony Parker G Tennessee
Parker gives the Texans another young offensive lineman to add depth to a unit that got hit fairly hard with injuries in 2008.
16 San Diego Chargers- Louis Delmas S Western Michigan
At 5 ft 11 he is a tad short for the position but has football smarts and playmaking ability. Look for him to be a special teams ace if nothing else for the Chargers.
17 Green Bay Packers- Jared Cook TE South Carolina
The Packers can use at 6ft 5 inch target who is athletic enough to make big plays across the middle. Jared Cook is that man with.
18 Chicago Bears- Jeremiah Johnson RB Oregon
Johnson does many things well but nothing real well. Injury history is a concern but he can help the Chicago Bears in the 2009 NFL draft.
19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers- DeAngelo Smith CB Cincinnati
With Barber getting old look for the Bucs to start picking up defensive backs in my 2009 NFL mock draft.
20 Detroit Lions- Arian Foster RB Tennessee
The Lions start adding some players for all these new offensive linemen to block for.
21 Philadelphia Eagles- Brandon Tate WR North Carolina
The Eagles add a guy who can help out on offense as well as special teams.
22 Minnesota Vikings- Alex Boone OT Ohio State
Boone is a huge monster of an offensive lineman and adds depth to the Vikings offense.
23 New England Patriots- Cullen Harper QB Clemson
Harper wasn’t the best college quarterback but neither were Brady or Cassel.
24 Atlanta Falcons- Courtney Greene S Rutgers
Atlanta grabs some youth where they need it, in the defensive secondary.
25 Miami Dolphins- Mohamed Massaquoi WR Georgia
The Dolphins grab a fairly tall wide receiver that can make all the catches at times and drop an easy one other times.
26 Baltimore Ravens- Juaquin Iglesias WR Oklahoma
The Ravens get a 3rd down target who may thrive in those situations in the NFL.
27 Indianapolis Colts – Dannell Ellerbe LB Georgia
Slips a bit because of a college knee injury but if is healthy he is a player at a position the Colts need badly.
28- Philadelphia Eagles- Rashad Jennings RB Liberty
Bit of a reach here but Jennings could be a good powerback for the Eagles and may possibly play fullback. Good receiver out of the backfield as well.
29 New York Giants- Jason Watkins OT Florida
Raw kid but has some talent and can be a good one under the right offensive line coach.
30 Tennessee Titans- Eric Wood C Louisville
Aggressive type of lineman that the Titans like but Woods needs to use better technique and to get a bit stronger.
31- Arizona Cardinals- Worrell Williams LB California
Williams will help the special teams right away and possibly be a starter sooner rather than later for an average at best Arizona Cardinals defense.
32- Pittsburgh Steelers- Terrance Taylor DT Michigan
Taylor is just about the right size to be a good run stopping nose tackle in Pittsburgh’s 3-4 defense.
