Are the 'Skins for real?
October 5th 2008 23:52
I'm not a big Redskins fan so it pains me to say they might be for real this year.
After their first game of the year against the Giants, which they lost, I figured it was early in the season but, secretly hoped it would be just another year. Watching them manhandle the Philadelphia Eagles 23-17 this afternoon, I had to admit I was wrong.
After spotting the Eagles two touchdowns, Washington again proved they are one of the best NFC comeback teams and scored 16 unanswered points before taking control of the game.
With upcoming games with St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit, and Pittsburgh, it looks like the road to the Superbowl may go through Washington this year.
Admittedly, I may be jumping the gun because the 'Skins have yet to play rematches with all of their division foes. However, the 'Skins have one thing in their favor--those games will all be on home turf. Although Washington has proven they can win on the road, in a big game, that home field advantage never hurts.
There's another wild card in the mix I haven't heard much about and that's coach Jim Zorn. Jim Zorn was the quarterback for the first few years of the Seattle Seahawks's existence. They were never a great or even good team at that stage of the game but they were a lot of fun to watch.
Just about any gimmick from a sandlot playbook was in their bag of tricks. Fake kicks, fourth down efforts, and anything else you can imagine was fair game in those days.
As I was watched Antwaan Randle El throw a touchdown pass this afternoon, it was like watching vintage Zorn. I wonder if he will coach with the same wackiness he incorporated as a player. On thing is certain, 4-1 is still early in the season but since next three teams have combined for a 1-11 record and the Steelers are definitely beatable, it's not that much of a stretch to imagine the 'Skins at 8-1.
Time will tell!

I am a Cowboy fan. I have to point that out before commenting on the Redskins. lol
I think they "played up" to the Cowboys and Eagles ability. Unfortunately I have a hunch they will "play down" to other opponents ability. So I think with as bad as the Rams, Browns, and Lions are, at least a couple of them will still end up being close games. by the time they play the Steelers their game might be easy depending on who else Pittsburgh loses between now and then to injury.
That was an unbiased comment by the way. At this point to help convince you of that fact - my Fantasy Football team's starting defense is the Philadelphia Eagles. While I am a Cowboys fan I don't blind myself of the fact that our enemies are good too.

I consider the Cowboys my 2nd favorite team behind the lowly Chiefs.
