Only a few days after signing with the Baltimore Ravens, Drew Bennett has retired. The former Ram wide receiver was signed as a possible starter for the Ravens after Derrick Mason suddenly retired. Drew Bennett hung up his cleats because an old knee injury flared up on him over the weekend.
Now the Ravens who have never had really good wide receivers are back looking for some help. Coke head Matt Jones’s name is coming up a lot as is Marvin Harrison. It is also possible the Ravens could make a trade for a wide receiver from another team.
I would of course like to see Justin Harper a rookie last season get some playing time in 2009. I wrote about him here because he is from my home area. He has the size and speed to play wide receiver in the NFL and it would be awesome to see him do so.
But the Ravens need some help from somebody to give Mark Clayton a helping had in a poor passing offense. I even heard Michael Vick’s name being tossed around. Well that is dumb; he has been out of the sport for two years and never played wide receiver before. Vick is not the answer at wide receiver for anyone unless in a special package of a few plays.
