Eagles 2009 needs and moves

April 6th 2009 11:01
The Philadelphia Eagles looked like two different teams in 2008. They seemed as capable of dominating a game as getting spanked in one. So far in the 2009 NFL offseason they have been fairly silent in free agent player moves, other than letting some leave. This article will explain what the Philadelphia Eagles 2009 offseason needs and player moves are. Keep in mind this article is being written on March 15th so anything after that will not be covered in this article. All the information about player moves comes form NFL.com

Philadelphia Eagles 2009 Offseason Needs

The biggest 2009 offseason need for the Philadelphia Eagles is to add some offensive firepower to help Donovan McNabb. They traded wide receiver Greg Lewis and let backup running back Correll Buckhalter go to Denver as a free agent. They need a good wide receiver such as Torry Holt or Philly native Marvin Harrison. McNabb needs some help at receiver, line and running back since Westbrook can’t stay healthy for a season.

The Eagles are also desperate for offensive linemen with Tra Thomas becoming a Jacksonville Jaguar, and need some defensive backs after the departure of Brian Dawkins and Lito Shephard and Sean Considine. The Eagles badly wanted Panthers offensive tackle Jordan Gross but he resigned with Carolina shortly before free agency started.

The Eagles defense can still be solid especially if Jim Johnson is able to coach them next season. Johnson is suffering from cancer and I have not heard about a possible return, or him not returning for that matter. His return would boost what could be a very good unit in the 2009 NFL season.

Philadelphia Eagles 2009 offseason player moves so far

The biggest loss is Brian Dawkins who signed with the Denver Broncos, followed by Buckhalter going to the same team. Lito Shephard was traded away as was Greg Lewis. L.J. Smith will be missed at tight end as well.

The Eagles did sign former Bengals franchise player Stacey Andrews an offensive tackle who is coming off a bad injury. If he is healthy he will make the Eagles offense much more dangerous.

Safety Sean Jones was signed to help replace Brian Dawkins, Jones was formerly a Cleveland Browns.

Eldra Buckley was signed at running back after he was released by the San Diego Chargers.

Rashad Baker a defensive back has been signed after playing last year for the Oakland Raiders.
