Bowl Game Predictions: Non-BCS
December 29th 2008 21:53
Hello loyal readers. I have made my triumphant return to footballdogz.com to enlighten all of you on the nitty gritty of bowl season. Yes, I know that I have missed a number of bowl games...but thankfully none were that important.
Well I'm back now, and with that, here are my picks.
Alamo Bowl:
#25 Missouri vs #23 Northwestern: If there is one team who could be labeled the greatest dissapointment in college football this season, it could be Chase Daniel and the Missouri Tigers. They collapsed in greatly improved Big XII and now they are stuck in the Alamo Bowl. I say that redemption does not come on this day and the rapidly improving Northwestern Wildcats get their first bowl win since 1949.
Missouri 31 NW 38
Holiday Bowl:
#13 Oklahoma State vs # 15 Oregon: The Pac-10 was overrated this entire season while the Big XII was easily the strongest conference in the country. Oklahoma State has always been viewed as the forgotten team and WR Dez White will take it out on the Ducks.
Okla St. 31 Oregon 10
Sun Bowl:
#24 Oregon State vs # 18 Pittsburgh: The Beavers were within a whisper of going to Pasedena and then they realized that they were Oregon State. The choked to rival Oregon and are now in the Sun Bowl...where they will have to contend with Pitt running back Shade McCoy. I predict that the Beavers salvage their season with a win.
OSU 24 Pitt 16
Music City Bowl:
Boston College vs Vanderbilt: Vanderbilt should be just happy to be there, but they will not be content...who knows when the Commodores will be back. I see this one being highly contested with BC getting the win...but just barely.
BC 24 Vandy 21
Insight Bowl:
Minnesota vs Kansas: Do you hate defense?...then this is the game for you. Points will be scored and defenses will be shredded. This game comes down to Minnesota QB Adam Weber vs Kansas QB Todd Reesing...I give the edge to the veteran Reesing.
Minnesota 34 Kansas 45
Chick Fil A Bowl:
LSU vs #14 Georgia Tech: This must be a strange feeling for the Tigers. This is the first time since I can remember that New Year's Day will come and LSU will be home. Georgia Tech was in the top half of a strange ACC. I predict that LSU brings their A-game...but it will not be enough.
LSU 24 GT 30
Outback Bowl:
Iowa vs South Carolina: This is the first time ever that the Outback Bowl will not feature a ranked team. So it boils down to this...Gamecocks: Meet Shonn Greene.
Iowa 31 South Carolina 14
Gator Bowl:
Nebraska vs Clemson: Remember when Nebraska was a perennial title contender. Now they have fallen to the second class of the Big XII. They were still able to get into a New Years Day Bowl...where they play a medicore Clemson team. I see the Huskers pulling this one out.
Nebraska 17 Clemson 13
Capital One Bowl:
#16 Georgia vs # 19 Michigan State: This may be the most exciting game of the bowl season. It is Matthew Stafford, who is perhaps the most NFL ready QB right now against Javon Ringer, who may be the best back in the country. My rationale is that it is easier to stop a back than it is an arm.
Georgia 31 Michigan State 23
Cotton Bowl:
#20 Mississippi vs #8 Texas Tech: Mississippi has a formidable team...they were the only team to beat Florida, but Texas Tech has simply too much offensive firepower with Harrell and Crabtree as well as too much motivation after being left out of the BCS.
Texas Tech 38 Ole' Miss 24
I will be back on New Years Eve with my picks for the BCS Bowls. If there were any bowls that I missed, please drop me a line and let me know.
Until Next Time,
Enjoy the Bowls,
Robin Pottratz
