Tom Brady out for the season
September 8th 2008 15:41
Tom Brady is out for the season with a knee injury according to NFL.com. Playing against the Kansas City Chiefs he was hit by Benard Pollard and left the game. Now if Bill Belichick had worked for Nixon, then we never would have heard of Watergate. He tells the media nothing and expects the same from the rest of the Patriots. So we may never know what exactly the injury is.
Chris Simms seems to be benefiting from that game as both the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs are courting him now. Chiefs quarterback Brody Coyle also went down in the game with a separated shoulder. Simms has a tryout with the Patriots today (Monday) and if they want him, he would be foolish to refuse.
However Simms may not be a starter in New England since Matt Cassel already knows the system And he played decently in the win over the Chiefs. I do think Simms would start in Kansas City once he learned the offense. Crybaby Daunte Culpepper retired saying nobody would give him a chance. I am sure he would love to reunite with Randy Moss the man who made Culpepper’s career. I am not even sure if the Patriots would want him.
But no matter who is brought in now that Tom Brady is out for the year, Matt Cassel gets first dibs. He knows the system and the team must have some faith in him or he wouldn’t be the 2nd string Quarterback behind Tom Brady to begin with.
One advantage Cassel has is that Brady was already inured for all of the preseason giving Matt plenty of playing time with the first string offense. His inexperience is what scares the team and its fans. But remember the last time the Patriots had a severe injury to a quarterback. Drew Bledsoe went down and Tom Brady started a Hall of Fame Career. So ya never know.
The New York Jets are looking pretty now with Tom Brady out for the season and them getting Brett Favre. But the Buffalo Bills looked really good when they kicked the crap out of the Seattle Seahawks yesterday. So the division is up for grabs as is the entire AFC.
