Derrick Brooks a Bear?
September 14th 2009 17:09
Brian Urlacher was injured in the Packers game and will miss the rest of the 2009 NFL season. Urlacher is the face if not heart and soul of the Chicago Bears defense, though a bit overrated in my opinion.
According to profootballtalk.com it looks like long time Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks is coming to Chicago. Bears coach Lovie Smith used to coach Brooks and the other Tampa linebackers.
Derrick Brooks replacing Brian Urlacher makes perfect sense. Brooks is a solid and very smart veteran player who knows the cover 2 defense. If he has kept himself in shape (I bet he has) look for Brooks to start as early as next week for the Bears.
Chicago has a chance to be a playoff team and I think replacing Urlacher with Brooks is a good move for them. Derrick Brooks is a pro and probably has a good season left in his tank.
Now the Bears just need to get their offense going which starts at the line. They struggled against the Packers 3-4 defense and looked slow. Once Cutler settled down he played fairly well in the loss to the Packers.
