A nod to the Browns

January 3rd 2010 21:40
I must give a nod to the Cleveland Browns after abusing them and their coaching staff all season. I am sure their fine finish to the 2009 NFL season will be covered very well by Bruce Bostwick here so I will be brief.

The Cleveland Browns won their last 4 games and even affected the AFC playoff picture for the 2009 NFL season. I still think that Eric Mangini was a bad hire for the Cleveland Browns. He alienated the team early and I don’t think the Browns players recovered from that very quickly.

But whether it was pride or fear for their jobs or just wanting to win, the Browns closed out the 2009 NFL season in style. With Mike Holmgren running the show there is speculation that Eric Mangini may be fired before the 2010 season.

I think Mangini has earned the right to coach one more season to see if the Browns can improve, even though he wasn’t a good hire to start with. With a 2011 NFL strike or lockout coming, the Browns won’t be eager to hire a new coach anyway.
