Cadillac Williams return spawns shady move by Chargers
November 13th 2008 00:16
Cadillac Williams has returned earlier than expected from an injury and is on the Tampa Bay active roster. A little intrigue came about when Williams was activated.
The Bucs waived running back Michael Bennett to make room for Williams to return to active status. The Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers both put in a claim for Bennett.
Denver has had a rash of injuries at RB and Bennett would have been an almost immediate starter there. He has shown flashes of good play in Minnesota, Kansas City and Tampa Bay.
But the Chargers snatched Bennett to keep their division rival from obtaining a running back. Denver has a better record thus the Chargers had a higher claim. Now Bennett will sit the pine instead of being a starting NFL running back.
This was a good move by the Chargers to some degree. But it really hurt Bennett and it is kind of unsavory to most fans.
Meanwhile it is great to see Cadillac Williams getting ready to play again. And the Bucs have had injury problems at running back as well. So I would bet on seeing him on the field sooner rather than later.
