Potential new Head Coaches for the 2009 NFL season

November 9th 2008 13:04
Tony Dungy
Tony Dungy already has a replacement if he retires
You will see several new head coaches in the NFL in 2009. We already have had coaching changes with the 49ers, Raiders and Rams this in 2008. This article will tell a little about which jobs will probably come open, and who may fill them.

First I think Jim Haslett will retain the job in St. Louis but the management has to interview a minority coach first. I think Mike Singletary will keep the 49ers job if he can keep his pants up.

Also the Seattle Seahawks will be coached by former Falcon Coach, Jim Mora. And the Colts will be coached by Jim Caldwell if Tony Dungy retires as expected.

Teams that will be looking for a new head coach for the 2009 NFL season.

Detroit Lions
They already fired their general manager Matt Millen and Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli will be gone about 5 minutes after the season ends.

Oakland Raiders

I don’t see Tom Cable keeping the job he was given when the previous coach was fired.

Dallas Cowboys

Wade Phillips was a lame duck coach from the start. The Cowboys hired him to hold down the fort while Jason Garrett (offensive coordinator) got more experience. The only thing is Garrett may be gone too in a total shakeup.

Minnesota Vikings

This is a underachieving team with talent everywhere but quarterback. Unless they really finish strong look for Head Coach Brad Childress to be gone.

Cincinnati Bengals

Marvin Lewis did great things with this team of thugs in the past but that time is over. Look for Lewis to be gone.

Cleveland Browns

Romeo Crennel is coaching a team that was predicted to be a playoff football team. They tanked and unless they really come on, he will be gone.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jack Del Rio has lost the trust of this team. He is creating stupid team rules and acting like an out of control dictator. I think his days as the Jaguars coach are numbered.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are already rebuilding and I think Herm Edwards will be fired and possibly ( I hope so since this is my favorite team) General Manager Carl Peterson as well. However the Chiefs are playing hard for Herm and this may buy him another season.

Potential new Head Coaches for the 2009 NFL Season

I don’t really see any college head coaches moving to the NFL anytime soon. The recent history of college guys coming to the NFL for a year and a paycheck have stopped that.

Marvin Lewis if he is fired by the Bengals may get another head coaching job right off the bat. I would love to see him with a team that scouts somewhere besides prisons for new talent. He did well a few years ago and may well get a fresh start with a new team.

Bill Cowher

He has a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers and will be the most sought after coach in the offseason. However he has said he is enjoying retirement and has no intentions to coach again. If Bill Cowher does coach again it would be for a team that would give him total control over football operations.

Mike Holmgren

He is retiring from the Seahawks but he will be sought after by a team or two. And he is rumored to possibly be the 49er’s next General Manager.

Rex Ryan

The defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens will be sought after and will get a job. He constantly has great defenses and defense wins championships.

Russ Grimm

He is the current assistant head coach in Arizona. He was a great player and is a good coach. His experience with Pittsburg and their ground game, coupled with helping Arizona’s passing game makes him well rounded. I see him as probably coaching one of the Ohio teams next year.

Mike Mularkey

He is the Offensive Coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons who may be the surprise of the NFL. He has been a head coach (Buffalo Bills) and may have earned another chance at being one in 2009.

Jerald Ingram

He is the running backs coach of the New York Giants. It seems like every time they stick a new back in, he plays very well. He has 24 years of coaching experience and I think he would make a great NFL Head Coach. And teams love to pluck coaches from a successful team like the New York Giants.

I'm not exactly sure why Herm Edwards was even hired as the K.Cl coach. He was moderately successful with the Jets but watch the tail end of their game today showed me he still can't optimize talent like say, Bill Parcels which brings up another point--if HE was still the coach at Dallas...

I would rename all my kids Bill if Parcells would take over my lowly Chiefs.

I hope he's enjoying private life. He's a coach in a million and definitely proved himself!
