College Football Picks: Week 10

October 31st 2008 05:06
We are entering November. It is getting down to the bowl game nitty gritty and there are some key matchups that will determine some New Years Day bowl games. So lets get right down to it.

Northwestern @ #20 Minnesota: Who would've thought 2 months ago that this game would be relevant? This game features two of the most prolific offenses in the Big Ten, and not to mention there hasn't been this much excitement around either of these two programs in many a moon. I believe that this will be a shootout with the homefield advantage being the deciding factor.

NW 31 Minnesota 42

Wisconsin @ #23 Michigan State: Despite the egg that was layed against Ohio State, the Michigan State Spartans still have one of the top backs in the country in Javon Ringer. Wisconsin has been a crushing dissappointment this year as now the insight.com bowl would be a reasonable goal. I believe that the nightmare continues for the Badgers.

Wisconsin 21 Michigan State 30

#19 Tulsa @ Arkansas: The Golden Hurricane scores an average of 55.6 points a game, Arkansas allows 32 points per game...do the math.

Tulsa 42 Arkansas 28

#14 Missouri @ Baylor: Missouri is finished in the national title chase. However, they do have the oppertunity to contend for a New Years Day bowl game. A ripe opponent in Baylor should be just what the doctor ordered for Chase Daniel and the Tigers.

Missouri 41 Baylor 14

#23 Oregon @ California: The Pac-10 is USC's conference, this game is about respect, not to mention 2nd place in the conference. This will be highly contested, but I give the bears the edge at home.

Oregon 24 Cal 28

#5 Florida vs #8 Georgia in Jacksonville, FL: It is no longer PC to call this game "the world's largest cocktail party," but that doesn't make this game any less interesting. This game comes down to Tim Tebow vs Matthew Stafford. Tebow has the recievers that Stafford does not, but the Bulldogs have other intangebles. Also, this is an elimination game in the BCS chase for one of these teams. I predict that this will be an intense showdown and I give the Dawgs the edge.

Florida 31 Georgia 35

Nebraska @ #4 Oklahoma: This game could pose a test for the newly refocused sooners. I think that the huskers keep it close until about the middle of the 3rd quarter. When that happens, Oklahoma will be focused on style points.

Neb 21 Okla 45

#11 Boise State @ New Mexico State: The broncos are on pace for another BCS bowl buster season...only this time they have to compete with other mid-majors in TCU and Utah. They know that an undefeated season is their only chance, and they keep the dream alive with this one.

Boise St. 28 NMSU 14

#12 TCU @ UNLV: Like Boise St, TCU has no room for error. What doesn't hurt is that their only loss came at the hands of #4 Oklahoma. However, they do need to win out and hope for either some losses or some help from the computers to break the BCS bowl. What helps is their showdown with #10 Utah next week. As for this week, they keep up their end of the deal .

TCU 24 UNLV 7

#10 Utah @ New Mexico: Utah is in the best and worst position of all the BCS bowl busters. They are ranked the highest, but they have a potential spoiler on the horizon when they play both TCU and BYU...both of those games are at home, but a clean sweep of them would guarantee a BCS birth. They are not caught looking ahead in this one...because they know that they need it.

Utah 31 New Mexico 14

#1 Texas @ #6 Texas Tech: This is the game of the weekend. If Texas can survive this, then they are home free. If they lose this, they can all but kiss the national championship goodbye. This game will be an absolute shootout with Texas QB Colt McCoy shredding the red raider secondary and TTU QB Graham Harrel doing the same to the longhorn secondary. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Texas is focused and realizes that if they win this, they are as close to home free as any team in the Big XII. I believe that the 'horns win it in a shootout.

Texas 38 Texas Tech 31

#16 Florida State @ Georgia Tech: This is a huge game in deciding a weak ACC conference. These teams are battling for a spot in the ACC title game, where they might end up facing each other. On this day, I give the jackets, playing at home the edge, but this may not be the last time this season that these two see one another.

Upset Special: Florida State 21 GT 24

Those are my picks for this week. Disagree? then drop me a line at either footballdogz.com or look me up at entertainmentinsider.com.au

Until Next Time,
Enjoy the Games!!

I guess there's new meaning to "The eyes of Texas are upon you" this weekend!
