College Football Picks Week 13

November 20th 2008 22:08
This is the home stretch. The Big Ten conference finishes up this weekend and conference title games are just around the corner. Teams are jockeying for position and looking at the almighty BCS to determine their fate. This is a big weekend that features big games...including a game thought of to be the greatest rivalry in sports.

Here are the picks:

#23 Miami at Georgia Tech: This winner of this game will all but lock up a spot in the ACC title game. After years of turmoil, the Canes seem to have gotten their stride back however Georgia Tech has the home field advantage. I am going with pride and confidence over home field.

Miami 24 Georgia Tech 20

NC State at #25 North Carolina: The Heels have been a pleasant surprise this college football season. They need to win to have any hope of the ACC title game. That ship may have sailed but a good bowl game hasn't.

NC State 17 UNC 28

Michigan at #10 Ohio State: This is the greatest rivalry in sports. The Wolverines are disappointments this year, but they will be up for this game. Ohio State has Rose Bowl hopes and other BCS aspirations. If they lose this game those hopes go out the window. Pryor, Wells, and Coach Tressel will not let that happen.

Michigan 17 Ohio State 31

Citadel at #3 Florida: Florida is a focused machine and the poor Citadel will be caught in its grip.

Citadel 10 Florida 41

Ole Miss at #18 LSU: LSU is dealing with a new scenario...they are not in the national title picture. However, they can still reach a New Year's Day bowl...not a bad consolation prize. Ole Miss is in the same boat. A win over the Tigers could earn them an birth in perhaps the Outback Bowl. They will both leave it all on the field...but I give the tigers the edge.

Ole Miss 24 LSU 28

#17 Michigan State at #7 Penn State: Both of these teams have Rose Bowl aspirations. PSU wins and they are in, A Spartan win and a Buckeye Loss to Michigan and MSU is going. Both of these teams will be playing on January 1st, it is just a matter of where and which bowl they will be going to. This game will determine all of that. I give the Lions the edge in Happy Valley.

MSU 28 PSU 31

#16 BYU at #8 Utah: An undefeated season and a BCS bowl is on the line for the Utes as they play their in state rivals. This is it for Utah. Everything is right in front of them...it is now time to reach for the brass ring. Behind QB Brian Johnson...I saw that the Utes win and make a statement going into the BCS.

BYU 10 Utah 28

#9 Boise State at Nevada: Last Year these two teams scored a combined 136 points. Boise State is better this year and is looking to return to the BCS for the first time since the 2006 miracle game against Oklahoma. Boise State is simply too talented and too focused to be tripped up by the Nevada Wolves.

Boise State 24 Nevada 17

#20 Cincinnati at #19 Pittsburgh: This is the Big East Championship. Neither one of these teams will end up in the BCS but they could end up playing on January 1st. Pittsburgh is anything but consistent and Cincy is playing with a banged up quarterback. I give the Bearcats the edge at home

Pitt 24 Cincy 30

Florida State at #22 Maryland: With one win the 'Noles can find themselves right back in the driver's seat for the ACC title game. Maryland is riding a tidal wave of momentum after their win over North Carolina. I say that FSU is still rattled from their suspensions and loss against BC and that Maryland will take advantage.

FSU 20 Maryland 28

#2 Texas Tech at #5 Oklahoma: This is the marquee game of the weekend and the game that can shake the BCS to its very foundation. If you enjoy defensive battles then this is not the game for you. These are two of the most high octane offenses in the country led by two of the best QB's in the nation with Oklahoma's Sam Bradford dueling with Texas Tech gunslinger Graham Harrell. There will be points...and a close Sooner win.

TTU 42 Oklahoma 48

#21 Oregon State at Arizona: In all of the hoopla surrounding Utah and Boise St. as potential BCS busters, the biggest troublemaker of all lies in the Pac-10. If they win out, The Oregon State Beavers will clinch the Pac-10 championship and a spot in the Rose Bowl. This would put USC as a BCS at large and would knock Ohio State out of the running. Arizona has proven that they are a tough opponent...they took USC to the absolute limit. I think that this is their national championship and they make the most of it.

Upset Special: Oregon State 14 Arizona 17

Those are my picks for this week. This is a mega week with mega games and I may need to go to the hospital for exhaustion after Saturday...not really but I'm just saying. If you disagree just drop me a line.

Until Next Time,
Enjoy the Games,

You have guts making a call on a Big East game! If they were a competitive against OTHER teams as they are within the conference they'd be a force to contend with!!!!
