College Football Picks: Week 4
September 24th 2009 14:19
Now we in the thick of the conference schedules and many national title titans have fallen. USC fell at Washington, BYU's hopes crumbled at the hands on non conference Florida State and the University of Miami is back and ranked within the top 10.
With that said, lets get to the picks
#4 Mississippi at South Carolina:
Don't look now, but the Rebels are officially in the national title picture. They have a Heisman trophy contender in Jevan Snead and they are firing on all cylinders. Now comes the rigor of the SEC schedule. It begins with the old ball coach Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks. It will be close, but I say that Ole Miss gets it done.
Mississippi 32 South Carolina 28
#1 Florida at Kentucky:
Kentucky is an incredibly athletic team, coming off that barnburner against rival Louisville. They may be able to match the Gators on that front, but Florida has the big game experience and determination to get it done.
Florida 31 Kentucky 21
Arizona State at #21 Georgia:
Georgia has bounced back after their loss to Oklahoma State with two straight wins and now head into a solid test against Arizona State. I predict that on their home field, The Bulldogs get it done.
ASU 14 Georgia 28
#22 North Carolina at Georgia Tech:
There is no better wake up call than a good ass kicking...which is exactly what the Yellow Jackets got last week at the resurgent University of Miami. I have doubted UNC all season and they continue to prove me wrong...that stops this week as Georgia Tech takes out their aggression on the Tar Heels.
UNC 24 Georgia Tech 40
Ilinois at #13 Ohio State:
The last time the Illini paid a visit to Columbus, they knocked off the then number 1 Buckeyes en route to a Rose Bowl birth. That team had Rashad Mendenhall and ran all over the Buckeyes. They still have Juice Williams and Arelious Benn but Ohio State has Terelle Pryor and will get revenge for the home crowd.
Illinois 14 Ohio State 24
#6 California at Oregon:
Jahvid Best is (no pun intended) the best back in the country. This is the Bears' biggest test to date going against the Ducks. I think that it will be a struggle but Best will put the Bears on his shoulders for the victory.
Cal 27 Oregon 20
Iowa at #5 Penn State:
Penn State remembers the game last year in Iowa City that cost them a national title shot. Penn State is almost all back while Iowa has lost both Shonn Greene (the draft) and Jewel Hampton (injury) but still has a solid defense and Ricky Stanzi...however that won't be enough to handle the white out.
Iowa 17 Penn State 24
Texas Tech at #17 Houston:
The class of Conference USA, the Houston Cougars have surprised everyone this year and have a chance to show it against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. My guess is that they seize the moment.
Texas Tech 21 Houston 30
#24 Washington at Stanford:
After the biggest win in years against the USC Trojans, the Huskies go right back to work against the Stanford Cardinal. Washington will experience a hangover, but not enough to hang an L.
Washington 17 Stanford 14
#9 Miami at #11 Virginia Tech:
This is the game of the week. This is basically the ACC title game. Miami is all of a sudden resurgent and Virginia Tech is still in contention for the ACC title and possible the national title. I predict that Miami continues their magical run with a big win in Blacksburg.
Miami 24 Virginia Tech 23
Upset Special:
#15 TCU at Clemson:
TCU is now in a wide open Mountain West Conference after the losses of both Utah and BYU. However the third domino will fall this Saturday when they drop an important one to the Clemson Tigers.
TCU 30 Clemson 35
