College Football Picks: Week 7

October 24th 2009 15:21
This is the first week where we have BCS standings to reflect on. Florida and Alabama are 1 and 2, not suprisingly, however they must play one another down the road. Other than that...it is a crap shoot.

Now, on to the picks:

USF at #20 Pittsburgh:

USF blew their opportunity when they dropped a big one to Tony Pike and the Cincinatti Bearcats. They hope to rebound this week...but it doesn't happen.

USF 17 Pittsburgh 24

Minnesota at #18 Ohio State:

Remember 2 years ago? When QB Terrelle Pryor was the phenom prospect that had National Titles and Super Bowl Rings in his future. Well, after his dismal performance against Purdue and his lackluster season, critics are calling for him to either be benched or moved to another position. This will be a solid test against the Gophers. They might not be a power, but Minnesota is capable of putting it together once in a while. This game will be close, but the Buckeyes steal the win.

Minnesota 18 OSU 23

#25 Oklahoma vs #24 Kansas:

One would think that the Sooners would be facing a letdown after Sam Bradford went down and they lost to heated rival Texas last week. However, Landry Jones has proven to be a solid QB so their future will be fine. However, this is the present, not the future. I predict that the ageless Todd Reesing (will he ever graduate?) and the Jayhawks recover from their own upset loss at Colorado (which I predicted, HOLLA!!!) and get a win in a shootout.

Oklahoma 34 Kansas 41

#7 Iowa at Michigan State:

When will the rest of the country start believing in the Hawkeyes? I admit, I have been a doubter, I thought they would lose at Penn State, I thought they were doomed at Camp Randall last week against the Badgers, but this time I will not be fooled. Hawkeyes over Spartans.

Iowa 24 Michigan State 13

#10 TCU at #16 BYU:

Its great that the game of the week is in the Mountain West Conference. TCU still has solid BCS hopes, and this is the greatest test thus far for the Horned Frogs going into Provo. BYU still has flickering but existant hopes for a BCS birth in their own right. A win over TCU would help the cause. I predict in a mild upset, BYU gets it done.

TCU 25 BYU 31

#3 Texas at Missouri:

After their win against Oklahoma and the knowledge that Florida and Alabama have to play one another, Texas controls their own national title destiny. I predict that Colt McCoy and the boys struggle, but pick up a win over the prolific Missouri Tigers

Texas 31 Missouri 30

Upset Picks of the Week!!!:

#13 Penn State at Michigan:

Penn State still has a lot to prove, they have to prove that they are deserving of the ranking. Pitching a shutout against Minnesota last week helps, but I think a win at the Big House in Ann Arbor would put them right back in the game. Michigan also has a chip on their shoulder. The are now going with a QB by committee with Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson. I predict that the prolific Michigan offense coupled with an Ann Arbor crowd makes the difference.

Penn State 27 Michigan 38

Connecticut at #22 West Virginia:

I don't know if I am picking this as an upset for the right reason. After the tragic death of CB Jasper Howard, I guess I hope that they can pull out a win just to honor his memory. I guess the overwhelming sentiment wins the day for me as I predict the emotional Huskies score the upset.

Connecticut 24 WVU 21

Other Picks:
Boston College 21 Notre Dame 31
UCLA 14 Arizona 27
Tennessee 14 #1 Alabama 37
#2 Florida 31 Mississippi State 21
Auburn 21 LSU 31
Oregon State 10 #4 USC 28

Those are my picks. Disagree?, then drop me a line at footballdogz.com or at my own site entertainmentinsider.com.au

Until next week,
Enjoy the games!!!

I'm a little late reading this. I picked Connecticut over WVU also for the same reasons PLUS things change so much week to week in those 20-25 ratings. It's not much of a secret I like WVU so, I guess it's one for us 'Eers.
