College Football Picks: Week 9

October 24th 2008 22:06
Hey Football Fans,

I'm back again with some more college football picks. You may doubt some of my picks, but tell me this...name one other sports writer besides myself who picked Ohio State over Michigan State...I rest my case. So lets get down to it:

#23 Boston College at North Carolina: North Carolina views this as a must win game after their loss last week to Virginia. Boston College is coming off of a minor upset win over Virginia Tech. The key here is that since the ACC is down, this wouldn't be a devistating loss to the Eagles. Since they are in Chapel Hill, I'm going with the heels.

BC 14 UNC 20

#8 Texas Tech at #19 Kansas: This is the lesser game of the four marquee games this weekend. Texas Tech has been lacking respect...because they haven't played anyone. Kansas is out of the Big XII race but is still in the hunt for a New Year's Day bowl game...until today when the Red Raiders give them loss number 3 in a shootout.

Texas Tech 45 Kansas 38

#25 Minnesota at Purdue: For the first time in decades, the Minnesota Golden Gophers have actual momentum in their football program. After their win at Illinois, they now find themselves ranked. They now head to West Lafayette to play the Purdue Boilermakers who are winless in the Big Ten. The Boilers are hungry and the young Gophers may be overwhelmed by all the new attention. I give the edge to the Boilers...just barely.

Minnesota 21 Purdue 24

#4 Oklahoma at Kansas State: Oklahoma has no room for error if they have any hope of going to the National Championship. They have not played Kansas State in three years and the wildcats have the homefield advantage and will be motivated to try and derail the Sooners. I think that Oklahoma is focused and KSU is simply in their path.

Oklahoma 28 Kansas State 17

#9 Georgia at #11 LSU: This is the third best of the four marquee games of the weekend. Both of these teams have one loss...so this will be an elimination game for one of these teams. LSU's defense just is not what it was last year while Georgia's only loss of the season came to the #2 team in the country. I think that this will be a hard hitting, bruising, bloody SEC showdown. I give Georgia the slight edge in this one only because LSU's defense is weaker than previous years.

Georgia 24 LSU 21

#7 Oklahoma State at # 1 Texas: This is the 2nd most intriguing game of the four marquee games. Like most Big XII teams...Oklahoma State lacks one important thing...a defense. Texas QB Colt McCoy is a bonafied heisman candidate who is just shedding teams left and right. Oklahoma State will be no exception.

Oklahoma State 21 Texas 38

#3 Penn State at #10 Ohio State: This is the game of the weekend. A battle of explosive offenses and explosive QB's: PSU Darryl Clark vs OSU's Terelle Pryor. This game is the closest thing to a championship game as the Big Ten is likely to see. If PSU wins, they are in the driver's seat for the National Championship and if OSU wins then they are right back in the BCS hunt. This game is in Columbus, but I just think that Penn State is just a little bit better.

Penn State 24 Ohio State 20

#14 South Florida at Louisville: The Bulls are in a battle with the Pittsburgh Panthers for the Big East title. Pittsburgh has won their lone head to head battle so South Florida has no room for error. Despite that fact, I believe that this will be the misstep that the Bulls cannot afford.

Upset Special: South Florida 17 Louisville 21

#6 USC at Arizona: USC is coming off of a 69-0 dismantling of Washington State, but will not be able to run away from a Wildcat offense that averages 40.4 points per game. I predict that the Wildcats will be able to steal one from the Trojans in a shootout.

2nd Upset Special: USC 35 Arizona 38

#2 Alabama at Tennesee: Tennessee has been nothing but a dissapointment this season...with their record standing at 3-4. By comparison, Alabama has been a wonderful surprise in Nick Saban's second season at 7-0 and #2 in the country. The Vols have a lot of pride and view this as their national championship. They leave it all on the field in this one.

3rd Upset Special: Alabama 14 Tennessee 17

Those are my picks for this week. Disagree? then drop me a line at footballdogz.com. Also check out my individual blog at entertainmentinsider.com.au.

Until Next Time...Enjoy the Games,
