Breakdown of the Colts/Chargers game
December 29th 2008 23:03
Indianapolis Colts at the San Diego Chargers
The Chargers much like the Cardinals won a crappy division and probably don’t even deserve to be in the playoffs. As usual Coach Turner has led a team of underachievers into oblivion. Ladainian Tomlinson has not played up to his usual standards in 2008 and will be coming into the first round Playoff Game against the Colts with an abdominal injury.
However Phillip Rivers is having a pretty good season as is backup RB, Darren Sproles but he is no Michael Turner. The San Diego Chargers actually have the 2nd best offense in the NFL in points per game with 27.4. But that is inflated by playing crappy teams in the AFC West Division. The Chargers defense is average at best and really miss injured linebacker Shawn Merriman who was out for most of the Regular Season in 2008.
The Indianapolis Colts come into the first round of the 2008 NFL Playoffs on a hot streak. They looked really bad early in the season as Payton Manning recovered from missing training camp with a knee injury. But Manning got his rhythm back and leads the NFL’s 5th ranked passing offense into San Diego for the Playoff Matchup. The Colts do have the 31st ranked running offense however. Despite battleing injuries on defense they are the 7th ranked in points allowed. The Colts are hot having won their last 9 games.
With Tomlinson injured and not playing his best anyway I don’t think the Chargers can muster much against the Colts. Indy will light up the Chargers and I don’t think Phillip Rivers has the receivers to match up in a shootout. Indianapolis will defeat the Chargers 35 to 28.
