Dennis Dixon to start for Roethlisberger
November 29th 2009 11:15
Dennis Dixon will start for the Steelers against the Ravens today. Dennis Dixon is starting for the injured Ben Roethlisberger who was knocked out of the Chiefs game as you can see here. Ben Roethlisberger will be the emergency quarterback behind Dennis Dixon and Tyler Palko.
Ben Roethlisberger suffered a head injury and NFL teams are being more protective of players with concussion issues. You can read more about the dangers of concussions in the NFL here.
Dennis Dixon has one thing going for him a 100% completion rate in NFL games. Unfortunately he has only attempted one pass in a NFL game! Dennis Dixon was a 5th round draft pick in 2008 out of Oregon. Dixon passed for over 5,000 yards and had 38 passing touchdowns at Oregon.
With Charlie Batch injured the Steelers had to turn to Dixon and rest Big Ben from his injury. While the Steelers and Ravens games are important, they are not worth playing an injured Roethlisberger. The Steelers have to think long term for this season and even the rest of Roethlisberger’s career.
With a decidedly weak offensive line the Steelers can’t risk Ben getting injured worse. Dennis Dixon will get some much needed experience and Ben can rest. To sum it up I think the Steelers made a wise decision in starting Dixon on Roethlisberger against the Ravens.
