Tyler Thigpen headed to Miami
October 1st 2009 00:55
The Dolphins have traded with the Chiefs for Tyler Thigpen now that Chad Pennington is out for the season. The Chiefs have been shopping Thigpen for a while despite him being their best quarterback. Tyler Thigpen threw 18 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions in 2008 for a terrible Kansas City Chief team.
The Dolphins trading for Thigpen shows they are not comfortable with rookie Pat White backing up Chad Henne. Chad Pennington is out for the season with a shoulder injury. I believe that Thigpen will push Henne as soon as he learns the Dolphins offense.
However the Miami Dolphins are already off to a bad start, and may stick with Henne to see if he really is the quarterback of the future. One thing is clear though, Pat White is ok for the Wildcat, but not for regular duties as the quarterback in a base offense, at this time.
When teams have little hope of making the playoffs, they often play younger men to see what they can do. Head coach Tony Sparano has little chance of being fired so he may go with the younger quarterbacks.
However if the Dolphins win some games and get in the playoff hunt, look for Thigpen. Tyler Thigpen I hardly a wily veteran but he has more experience than Henne or White. And he can be a solid starter for the Miami Dolphins.
I don’t see Chad Pennington being a Miami Dolphin next season if he can even come back from the shoulder injury. Henne, White, or Thigpen should be the starter next season.
