More Favre drama
July 13th 2008 00:06
Well you could cut the drama with a knife. The Brett Favre soap opera continues. Now NFL.com is reporting the Packers won’t release Favre and if he comes back, it will be to backup starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
First Favre retires then wants to unretired and play but not for the Packers, because they didn’t kiss his butt enough last season. Now the Packers will look like bad guys for not kissing his butt now.
But I can see both sides of this story and am starting to lean towards thinking the Packers are in the right. After all Favre has a contract and nobody made him retire. Then he plays around with the thoughts of a comeback. Now he wants to play but not for the team who owns his rights.
That being said I would like to see Favre play as long as he can and stay near the top of his game. He is one of the best players, not just quarterbacks to ever play the game. When he is gone, that is it, we won’t see him play anymore.
I think the Packers should try to trade him to the team of his choice, if they can get fair or close to fair market value. I would say a 3rd or 4th round draft pick would be fair. And Favre could help get his release by offering back part of his signing bonus for this contract.
