2009 5 best free agent wide receiver
February 16th 2009 17:43
The 2009 NFL free agents at the wide receiver position are not a stellar group as a whole but there are some guys on the list than can help a team. So I am ranking the top 5 2009 unprotected free agent wide receiver group, and will list what team they may possibly go to in some cases. Any stats mentioned come from profootballreference.com and feel free to check my profile for more college and pro football articles. Thanks for reading my article about the top 5 2009 NFL free agent wide receivers on Footballdogz.com.
1 T.J. Houshmandzadeh Cincinnati Bengals
Houshmandzadeh has been a good player on a bad team his whole career and will be headed out of Cincinnati next season. Playing in the shadow of Chad Johnson has limited his stats to a degree but also helped him play against less double teams. T.J. is the best wide receiver in 2009 free agency. He has over 500 career receptions and has scored 39 touchdowns in regular season games.
I think Houshmandzadeh will go to a team that is a contender to win a Super Bowl but that will also pay him well to play for them. Look for him in the NFC East in 2009 with either Dallas or Philadelphia.
2 Devery Henderson New Orleans Saints
Henderson is a pure speed burner for the Saints who has had injury concerns and never had more than 32 catches in a season. But somebody will take a chance on him that needs to spread the field. Dallas, Tampa or Seattle may be a good fit for Henderson.
3 Bobby Engram Seattle Seahawks
Engram used to catch passes from Y.A. Tittle or so it seems he is so old. But despite a history of injuries he can help a team as a 3rd possession type wide receiver. It is possible that the Seahawks will resign him to help what is expected to be several rookie wide receivers in 09.
4 Nate Washington Pittsburgh Steelers
Being a backup wide receiver on a run first team has stunted Nate Washington stats. But in 4 seasons he has had 104 receptions for 1,705 yards with 12 touchdowns and a nice 16.4 yards per catch average. Washington has decent height at 6ft 1 and has good speed. Look for him in New Orleans, Tampa or San Francisco next season.
5 Shaun McDonald Detroit Lions
McDonald has been on a bad team and behind highly touted wide receiver his entire career. He can be a solid number two or three and will probably look for a new home. Don’t be shocked to see him with the Chicago Bears next season.
That concludes my list of the top 5 2009 NFL free agent wide receivers, thanks again for reading this, and please leave a comment.
