Dallas rookie running back Felix Jones is out for the rest of the 2008 season. He injured a toe during rehab of a pervious injury and is now done for the year.
This is a blow to a Dallas Cowboys team whose playoff hopes are already teetering on the edge of oblivion in 2008. Jones was the lightning to Marion Barber’s thunder in the offensive backfield.
Felix Jones brings rare speed and explosiveness to the Cowboys already potent (when Romo is around) offense. He had rushed for 266 yards and 3 scores in 6 games and averaged over 8 yards per rushing attempt.
But perhaps even more important he is an excellent kick returner helping the team with field position. The 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown was nice but solid field position is even more important to a team. His kickoff return average is 27.1 per attempt which is pretty damn good.
Felix Jones being out for the season hurts the Cowboys in another area. Game Preparation for their opponents will now not have to worry about Jones. Not having to plan to neutralize his speed will allow them time to worry about other facets of the Cowboys offense.
