Florida team national high school champs!
December 24th 2008 23:37
Christmas came early for some Florida boys this year. The Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders defeated the Lakeland Dreadnauts 56-7 to win the national 5A crown last weekend.
The victory was extra sweet for St Thomas because in their last meeting with Lakeland, in 2006, they came back from a 35-14 deficit with 2:25 left and then lost the game in double overtime.
Some St. Thomas stand outs who played in the game are already committed to colleges. Linebacker Conor O'Neil will be heading for Wisconsin while punter Ben Turke is going to wear the jersey of Notre Dame. Other players looking at the next level are kicker Mike Palardy who had touchbacks on all seven of his kickoffs Friday and kick returner Ronnie Kennedy finished the season with three touchdowns on special teams play.
You can see how your favorite finished up here.
WAY TO GO FELLAS!
