Eagles vs the Giants playoff game

January 6th 2009 02:30
Ok folks I went 3 out of 4 in my NFL Playoff Predictions last week. I correctly predicted the winner in all but the Colts-Chargers game. I am back to make more predictions and playoff game break downs for week two of the NFL Playoffs here in 2009. I run a Football Website, write a sports column for a local paper and cover the Carolina Panthers for another website, so I am qualified to do this.

This article will predict the winner of and breakdown of the Philadelphia Eagles at the New York Giants playoff game. These two teams are no strangers to each other as each is in the NFC East Division. On November 10th the Giants defeated the Eagles 36 to 31 in a Philly barnburner. On December 7th the Eagles repaid the favor and defeated the Giants on their home field 20 to 14. I expect this game to be another close one and it should go down to the final minutes.

The Philadelphia Eagles started off slow against the Minnesota Vikings but eventually pulled out a win in the playoff game. Donovan McNabb is playing well and Brian Westbrook is being his usual game breaking self. Jim Johnson has his defense firing on all cylinders as well as they head in to play the Super Bowl Champs from last year.

This breakdown of the Eagles vs. Giants playoff game predicts Brian Westbrook will be the key for Philadelphia. In their last game Westbrook had almost 200 combined rushing and receiving yards in the win over New York And running is the key in the NFL Playoffs. But look for Westbrook to burn the Giants on catches. The Giants linebackers are poor at pass coverage and that will be a huge factor in this game.

The New York Giants have to prove they can win without Plaxico Burress and Eli Manning who will be playing under more pressure. Brandon Jacobs and the gang bring a strong rushing offense to the table which is much needed with Burress out. Jacobs just wears out a defense by pounding the crap out of them. By the 4th quarter they are worn out and the other backs come in and break long runs.

The Giants have the 9th ranked rushing defense for the 2008 regular season and will hope to contain Westbrook. If they can contain Westbrook then they have a chance to win if McNabb has to take too much on his shoulders.

My prediction for the Philadelphia Eagles at the New York Giants playoff game is this. Westbrook will catch 10 passes for over 100 yards and the Eagles will pull one off. Philly 24 to 17 over the New York Giants. Thanks for reading this article, all stats and schedule information comes from NFL.com.
