Preventing injuries in high school football

Preventing injuries in football is always on the mind of parents and coaches of school aged players. And indeed many injuries are preventable if football equipment is used properly and football techniques are used properly.
Proper use of football techniques in tackling must be used at all times to prevent an injury. Even in the NFL I see players using helmets for a weapon, which can and does cause injury to the tackler and his opponent. In a proper tackle the head must be up and you must see the opponent, not dive in head first. Making sure you can see your target makes for a better tackle and not breaking your neck.
Proper hydration during practices and games can help the player avoid injury. When you are dehydrated you tend to lose focus and also cramp up. Make sure to drink lots of water and or Gatorade, especially on game or practice days.
Don’t ignore minor injuries as they can get worse if left untreated. Call any injury to the attention of the team trainer, coach or team doctor. Be willing to have your child sit out a game if it means he will be healthy for the rest of the season.
Having a nutritious diet and being in the best physical shape as possible are also keys to injury prevention. Proper diet and conditioning will help prevent fatigue in a football player, which often leads to injury. A good conditioned high school football player tends to avoid injuries.
Paying attention to what is going on in the game is a key to preventing injuries. Even in the NFL we often see a quarterback throw an interception and get nailed by a blocker while he is watching the action. A football player must never give up on a play until the whistle sounds.
To sum this up injuries can be avoided in football if the proper care is taken to do so. As be assured we at SI Blitz are concerned with the well being of our campers and will do everything in our power to keep them safe.
