Ouch interviews are expensive

September 2nd 2008 14:57
I have been trying to contact some former NFL players for interviews on footballdogz.com. What I had in mind was for fans to find out what they are doing now. I would gladly mention whatever business endevers they have going on currently to give them a plug.

My first request was to one of my favorite Dalllas Cowboys of all time. I won't name him because I see no point in appearing to badmouth him. Now this wasn't a famous or even top player in Dallas. He was a average player for several seasons and I just happend to like him.

I tracked himn down through his company and emailed him this morning. He replied within an hour and said he would be glad to do the interview, for $200! As much as I like the guy it would take me about 3 years to make that much money on this site.

Making money here (at least) isn't my main goal, I make money off articles written for another site. This is for fun and for publicity for my other stuff. So I had to turn down paying $200 for an interview. I do have feelers out to other players and if anyone knows a current or former NFL player who may want to be interviewed let me know.

I'm not sure whether or not this will help you, Randy, but here's what I have done to get interviews. I went to the 49ers training camp at Sierra College in Rocklin, California twenty-odd years ago and was allowed to watch them practice. I got little snippets from several of them for my article. Also, when looking for a celebrity interview, I contact them with the idea of an email interview. I submit the questions and they provide their answers. It's a no pressure way to do it and everybody is happy. Also, It's free, since it really takes almost none of their time.

Yeah email interviews are what I do, I did one with the writer Gary C. King not too long ago. Thanks for the tips.
