Favre a Jet!
August 7th 2008 23:47
Well the Brett Favre saga is over with his trade to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick. This in turn caused the release of Chad Pennington the long time Jet quarterback. Pennington may be headed to Minnesota to take the job that Favre didn’t get.
The fact that the Jets made the move and Favre accepted it, shows me they and he think that they are close to Super Bowl caliber. They have been a little more active in the off season that most teams. Adding Kris Jenkins, the former Panthers defensive tackle, Alan Faneca (former Steelers OG), Damien Woody a former Lion OL and others.
While Brett Favre gives the New York Jets their best QB since some guy named Namath, I am not sure they can get over the hump. It helps to win their division if a team wants to be world champions. And that isn’t going to happen for the Jets since they share the AFC East with the Patriots.
However a wild card playoff berth is very possible and who knows the Jets could get hot at the right time. Brian Shottenheimer (Marty’s son) is the offensive coordinator of the Jets and Brian Daboll is the quarterbacks coach. The Jets offense was criticized last season for being predictable. I do think Thomas Jones will be more productive now and the Jets could possibly go 11-5 with Brett Favre.
