Kansas City Chiefs Sign Bobby Engram

March 17th 2009 22:38
It's been long rumored that Bobby Engram was headed out of Seattle. The signing of TJ Houshmandzadeh made it even more evident that the veteran slot WR was on his way out.

At 36, Engram had been the Seattle Seahawks most reliable WR over the past few years. That being said, he has had his fair share of time on the sideline battling injury. Engram, the Seahawk's single season receptions leader with 94, adds instant depth to Kansas City's passing offense.

Engram adds instant reliability to the already sure handed Chiefs offense. With new QB Matt Cassel the Kansas City offense should surely have no trouble moving the ball. Already slightly pass happy - the Chiefs utilize the shotgun often - Engram should be able to at the very least keep featured pass catchers - WR Dwayne Bowe and TE Tony Gonzalez - from being double teamed.

For Cassel, Bobby Engram should fill the "Wes Welker" role very nicely and give the Chiefs a great chance at owning a very high 3rd down converted percentage in this upcoming season. He should live and flourish in the inside and quick slants roles this season.

Having a slight fall out with the Seattle Seahawks managment on some contract differences led to Engram's departure. Details on Engram's new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs are unknown at this time.

As a Chiefs fan I am glad to see Engram come to the team. I would rather see him as a number 3 or 4, I really wanted the Chiefs to make a move for Torry Holt or Joey Galloway.

Younger than Galloway, older then Holt... I'd say he's spilts the differnce in talent as well as age.

I agree he is by far best used as the slot WR. 7 to 11 yard inside routes are his bread and butter. He doesn't drop many balls - he's a good pick up.

I have just always been a Galloway fan. I suspect that either of those two would have cost more than Bobby.
