Matt Schaub out for the year!
November 15th 2011 01:29
Matt Schaub is out for the season and the Texans playoff run probably goes with him. The Texans are a run first team with the best wide receiver in football but they still need a quarterback.
Matt Leinart who I dubbed the best college quarterback of all time will be the starting Texan quarterback with Schaub out for the season. Unfortunately for the Texans I also labeled Leinart a bust in the NFL. No Texan quarterback other than Matt Schaub has even thrown a pass this season.
The Texans have a decent defense and with their running game could still make some noise in a watered down AFC. But the NFL is a passing league and Matt Schaub being out for the season really hampers the Texans.
With the trading deadline past the Texans are stuck with Leinart unless they want to go with Brett Favre. The Texans would be better on the field with Brett Favre than with Matt Leinart but may not be willing to put up with the distractions.
One other possible alternative would be former Carolina Panther Jake Delhomme. Jake knows how to operate a run first offense and once got the Panthers to the Super Bowl. However Jake Delhomme is a turnover machine. To Delhomme’s credit his leadership abilities are strong.
The Texans may still win the division without Matt Schaub but I don’t see them making any noise in the playoffs. It is a shame too as the Texans join the 49ers in playing some old school football and playing it well.
