Matthew Stafford has arrived
January 3rd 2012 12:12
Matthew Stafford has arrived as an elite NFL quarterback just below the skill set of Brees, Brady and a healthy Peyton Manning. For the first time in his career Stafford stayed healthy and he produced in a big way for the Detroit Lions.
Matthew Stafford started all 16 games in 2011 for the Lions and put up huge numbers. Stafford completed 421 of 663 attempts for 5,038 yards 41 touchdowns and only 16 interceptions.
Matthew Stafford always had the physical tools but was prone to separated shoulders in his first two NFL seasons. I also wondered how teammates would react to him. Brett Jensen of WFNZ who covered Stafford at Georgia often has commented on Stafford being abrasive and somewhat unpopular in college.
But with the help of Calvin Johnson I have to say Stafford has arrived as a top NFL quarterback and should be a good one for a long time.
