Ron Meeks heading to Carolina
January 26th 2009 22:03
Ron Meeks is going to be the Defensive Coordinator of the Carolina Panthers replacing Mike Trgovac. Earlier this week it was announced that Trgovac was leaving town and he later took the defensive tackles coaching spot with the Green Bay Packers. I live in North Carolina and listen to sports radio often. It is widely speculated that Trgovac turned down the coordinators job and took a lesser position to get out from under Panthers coach John Fox. A former defensive coordinator with the Giants, Fox keeps his hands all over a defense that got worse as the season went along.
Ron Meeks recently was the defensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts, but left after Jim Caldwell took over as head coach. Tony Dungy the former Colts head coach had retired earlier this off season.
The Colts defenses under Meeks have not exactly overwhelmed opponents in recent years. It is possible that this is a move to try to keep a disgruntled Julius Peppers from continued demands to get out of Charlotte.
