Merriman NOT out for the season-yet

August 29th 2008 00:22
Shawne Merriman is NOT out for the season, at least not yet. He has decided to play despite a knee injury. Doctors say he is risking a career threatening injury if he does play. He knows he needs surgery but wants to put it off because of the 6 to 7 month rehab attached.

Merriman says he simply wants to play and I applaud that to a degree. However at 24 he could have a good 10 years left after his operation. If he damages his knee beyond repair a promising NFL career is over.

If you have those type of injuries, you can't afford to make yourself look a fool. Is he afraid he'd be called soft for not playing? Honestly, he should have gotten the surgery right now and come back the following season healthy. Now, he's going to make himself look like a fool by playing with severe and possibly career threatening. The Chargers better get some common sense on this one.
