Mike Martz quts in Chicago
January 3rd 2012 22:56
Mike Martz has quit as the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears and Lovie Smith will be on the hot seat in 2012. Mike Martz probably quit to avoid being fired and may struggle to find employment in the NFL in 2012.
Martz uses a medium to long pass based offense that depends on deep drops by the quarterbacks. This means without a quality offensive line your quarterback takes lot of hits. Martz refusal to use the tight end went to Carolina’s benefit as they traded for Greg Olsen at a bargain price.
Mike Martz only got the Bears offensive coordinator job because several other coaches turned it down. Lovie Smith was thought to be getting fired and nobody wanted to join a lame duck staff.
Look for whoever replaces Mike Martz to run more of a pro set offense that takes advantage of Matt Forte’s considerable skills. With the severe winter weather that Chicago gets that type of offense would work out better for the Bears.
