NFL Coaches on the Hot Seat
November 21st 2011 20:51
I believe the following NFL coaches are on the hot seat in 2011. These coaches are in danger of being fired after the season and some would have been fired this year if the NFL lockout wasn’t going on.
Tony Sporano- Miami Dolphins
As I write this the Dolphins are on a three game winning streak but Sporano is on the hot seat anyway. Unless Miami can continue to win under Matt Moore in a big way then Sporano is gone after the season. He was already fired when the Dolphins went after Jim Harbaugh but then rehired when that fell though.
Ken Whisenhunt- Arizona Cardinals
The team did reach a Super Bowl under Whisenhunt but have floundered since then. A injury to Kevin Kolb may buy Whisenhunt another year but I don’t think so. The team’s inability to win much has hurt his chances.
Andy Reid- Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles opened the checkbook to make a Super Bowl run in 2011 but it has been a toilet bowl run instead. Andy Reid is on the hot seat in Philadelphia and maybe it’s time to make a change. Reid’s ego led him to make his offensive line coach the defensive coordinator and that blew up in his face.
Jack Del Rio- Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jags will take the cheapest option available to them when they fire Jack Del Rio. This team has no interest in winning and the fans have no interest in watching them. If the Jaguars are moving to Los Angeles then they will hire a name coach but look for a cheap assistant wanting a head coaching job.
Tom Coughlin- New York Giants
Tom Coughlin is on the hot seat every year but I think this time he is gone unless they make a deep playoff run. Coughlin’s age is against him as well as inconsistent play by the Giants during his tenure as the head coach.
Rex Ryan- New York Jets
The Jets may finally get tired of Ryan’s bluster and lack of wins and fire him if they can get a name coach like Gruden or Cowher. I think Rex Ryan will get another year with the Jets but his seat is getting a little warm.
Norv Turner- San Diego Chargers
Turner was a good offensive coordinator but has always been a poor head coach. The Chargers don’t care a huge amount about winning but enough is enough and Norv Turner will be fired unless the team makes the playoffs.
Mike Shanahan- Washington Redskins
Shanahan has proven what I suspected, that without John Elway he is an average at best coach. Shanahan marched into Washington like Napoleon and started feuds with several players and handled them badly. The decision to go with John Beck and Rex Grossman may cost Shanahan his job with the Redskins.
Jim Caldwell- Indianapolis Colts
Ok the Colts were going to suck without Peyton Manning but to be this bad? That blame has to rest partly on the shoulders of Jim Caldwell and Bill Polian. Caldwell is a buddy of Tony Dungy so I think he may get one more season but then again he might not.
