NFL players and their troubles with the law
July 4th 2008 15:06
I don’t understand NFL players or superstar athletes in general who get into trouble with the law. Marvin Harrison involved in a shooting incident in the offseason. Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson and others.
Now the Patriots have released defensive back and special teams player Willie Andrews, after his arrest for pointing a gun at his girlfriend’s head. Andrews had already been in legal trouble in the past on drug charges.
I used to think well some guys slip up. Now I think some criminals just happen to be NFL caliber football players. Blast from the pass Buster Rhymes was an All American at Oklahoma. Brian Bozworth and Barry Switzer both claim Rhymes fired an UZI submachine gun into the air after a snowball incident in college. He was a good kick returner for 2 seasons in the NFL. After playing in the CFL he was later arrested on car jacking charges. Even Randy Moss the most talented (but not the best) wide receiver of all time has had run ins with the law.
This 2007 USA Today is a good read on the criminal element in the NFL. In that article it stated that 50 NFL players had been arrested since 2006. Note that the article was written in 07. More have been arrested since then.
Rae Carruth former Carolina Panther is in prison for having his girlfriend killed. Because he didn’t want to pay child support. One of the twins she was carrying survived but has Cerebral Palsy.
I just don’t understand what would drive these punks to commit crimes when they can live on easy street the rest of their lives. I guess it proves great athletes don’t have to be great people. Thanks for reading this post on Footballdogz.com
