Long time Panther kicker and the last original Carolina Panther, John Kasay is out and Olindo Mare is in. The most surprising free agent signing by the Carolina Panthers has to be inking Orlando Mare to replace John Kasay.
I had wondered about the possibility of Mare becoming a Panther when I found out he has a house in Mooresville North Carolina which is less than an hour from Charlotte. It is also where numerous NASCAR drivers live and have shops.
Mare will allow the Panthers to only carry one kicker unlike past seasons when John Kasay was a liability on kickoffs. As a North Carolina native and Panther fan it is a little sad to see the last original Carolina Panther go. I expect John Kasay to retire rather trying to hook up with a new team.
