Breaking down the Carolina Panthers draft
April 27th 2009 11:13
I was pleased with the Carolina Panthers 2009 NFL draft picks. You can read my article about the Panthers draft here. The team is clearly trying to salvage the best of a bad situation on the Julius Peppers issue.
Julius Peppers has handcuffed the team with a $17 million hit on the salary cap for a player who won’t play for them. Of course the team also screwed themselves by tagging Peppers.
But the team addressed their needs by trading next year’s number one for a number two to draft Everette Brown. The Panthers defense sucks and they need line help whether Peppers plays or not.
In the 2009 NFL draft the Carolina Panthers drafted for need except when they went for a RB which I thought was a good pick anyway. They picked up a defensive tackle, a defensive end and some cornerbacks. The huge offensive tackle will be a great fit as they need some depth on the O line.
