Peppers a free agent while Panthers stand pat

February 24th 2010 00:57
As expected the Carolina Panthers have declined to franchise tag Julius Peppers for a 2nd season. This means Julius Peppers is a free agent and will be joining a new team for the 2010 NFL season.

To the non Panther fan Julius Peppers is a top level defensive end and the best defensive free agent on the market. However we who see him often know the real Julius Peppers and many Panthers fans are happy to see him go.

If Julius Peppers applied himself he would be a first ballot hall of fame player and get comparisons to Bruce Smith and Reggie White. However he takes whole games (and once a season) off where he gives NO effort what so ever.

The Carolina Panthers fans wanted to love Julius Peppers because he is a native of the state and played football and basketball at UNC. Julius Peppers however had no love for fans or media or even football.

Peppers claims he can reach his full potential with another team. Well yes he can if he applies himself but he won’t. The Panthers coaching staff lives in terror of Julius Peppers suddenly blowing up and getting 20 sacks a season for another team. And he might for one year just to justify a big contract if he gets one. But the real Julius Peppers will show up and he will under achieve again.

I think now that Julius Peppers is a free agent that he will sign with the Redskins or Eagles. Rumors are that he wanted to play for the Patriots but the New England coaching staff wouldn’t touch him with a 10 foot pole in my opinion.

Panther’s GM Marty Hurney said today on Primetime with the Packman that the team would concentrate on resigning it’s younger players. Reading between the lines it appears that the Panthers are standing pat and won’t be active in the free agent market. They clearly are waiting until the new labor agreement is signed to try to improve the team.
