Peyton Manning should retire

September 26th 2011 15:38
I think Peyton Manning should retire from the NFL while he still has his health. Manning is the ultimate competitor going so far as to travel to Europe for stem cell treatment not legal in the United States.

Peyton Manning has a bulging disc in his neck and has had two surgical procedures on it. The fact that the Colts resigned him to a long term contract showed they thought he could recover. Or possibly the Colts didn’t want the public relations nightmare of letting the best player in their history go due to injury.

Despite what Colt’s fan Mike Blalock is hoping for, a Manning return I don’t think it should happen. Blalock was the only Colt’s fan I talked to about Manning but I am sure most are dreaming of a return.

Peyton Manning has nothing left to prove in his career. Manning has a Super Bowl win and will be a first ballot NFL Hall of Fame selectee. The only thing some had against Manning was he didn’t win multiple Super Bowls.

Well as we see in 2011 the Colts suck without Peyton Manning and probably always would have. Manning carried a bad team on his back for years and did get his one Super Bowl win. It is a testament to Peyton Manning’s greatness that he was able to get his Ring despite lack of talent around him. Sure there were some good players but Manning shone far above them and even his coaches.

Peyton Manning should retire rather than cause even more damage to his health. The reason I never complain about high NFL salaries is because of the abuse pro football players take. Nobody wants to see Peyton Manning a crippled shambles of his former self like Earl Campbell is.

So if you are really a fan of Peyton Manning, you should hope he retires. I am not so sure Manning will coach when he is done but I expect to see him as an analyst. It is difficult for superstar athletes to be good coaches. They may not want to put the time in required for coaching and often can’t understand what came naturally to them does not to other players.

I hope Peyton Manning retires and don’t worry if you are a Colts fan. This team may very well have the first pick in the 2012 NFL draft. In Houston Archie Manning had a backup named Oliver Luck. We all know Andrew Luck; son of Oliver will be the first pick next year. How fitting would that be for Luck to replace Manning?

He should but won't. The hardest thing for competitors like Manning is to give it up. Maybe Archie Manning can talk him into retiring, but I doubt anyone else will. And BTW Manning was injured during the 2006 playoffs and the Colts won. They had a pretty good team. Injuries and the salary cap have hurt them the last few years.

I had forgotten about that playoff game.

Sadly, it's true that he should retire. It's tough for us to see a legend go, but it would be worse to see Manning injured even more.
