Footballdogz.com Power Rankings

Since week two of the 2009 NFL season is in the books, I decided to do some power rankings. These 2009 pro football power rankings will cover everything that has happened previous to the Monday Night game in week 2. I wrote this on Monday Morning for another site.
- The New Orleans Saints lead my week 2 NFL power rankings. Drew Brees is on a roll and the Saints defense is playing just good enough right now. Barring injury I expect the Saints defense to improve under Greg Williams as the season goes along.
- The New York Jets under rookie coach Rex Ryan have an awesome defense, which has not allowed an offensive touchdown yet. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez will make mistakes and cost them while he learns on the job though.
- The New York Giants are 2-0 and have found a way to win despite the loss of Plaxico Burris. Eli Manning is now an elite quarterback and their defense is playing well. The Giants were my preseason pick for the Super Bowl from the NFC.
- Those tough Baltimore Ravens are playing some good football on both sides of the ball. If Baltimore had good receivers they would be very deadly. I can’t believe no other teams thought Ray Lewis was worth a shot at in free agency.
- The Atlanta Falcons had wins against two average to bad teams but a win is a win in the NFL. The defense looks improved and Tony Gonzalez has added a new weapon of note to Matt Ryan and the offense.
- San Francisco is playing solid ball and Frank Gore is a beast. I just wonder how long they can keep beating teams with Shaun Hill at quarterback. Mike Singletary is a man who will not let them slack off though.
- Minnesota is playing well but Brett Favre will falter this season, they are smart enough to make sure Adrian Peterson is the focus.
-Pittsburgh has a loss but they are still better than the undefeated Denver team. Big Ben has been allowed to throw the ball more, sadly his offensive line sucks. The defense will be delighted to get Troy Palamalu back from injury.
- The New England Patriots are old on defense but still have the best coach the NFL has produced in many years. Look for Tom Brady to continue to shake off the rust from that injury and improve.
- The San Diego Chargers would be fine if they had stayed healthy. Phillip Rivers will have a career season.
- Ok the 2-0 Denver Broncos finally make my 2009 NFL power rankings. 2 wins against bad teams are still two NFL wins.
- The Arizona Cardinals played one crappy game and one good one. I think they will be ok as they defend their NFC crown.
- The Green Bay Packers look decent but their offensive line needs to improve. Dom Capers defense will get better, each week.
- The Indianapolis Colts should always rank decently on power rankings while they have Peyton Manning.
- The Dallas Cowboys made the mistake of letting choker Romo know the Giants game was a big one, or would be 2-0. I expect them to be higher on the NFL power rankings, soon.
- Chicago suffered the loss of Brian Urlacher for the season but Jay Cutler has shown the ability to shake off a bad game.
- Cincinnati lost a heartbreaker to Denver then went on to upset Green Bay. I am starting to like their chances for a decent season in 2009.
- Philadelphia has to shake off injury to McNabb and the tragic death of defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. Michael Vick won’t help them much this season.
- Houston showed me a little something when they beat the Titans in a close game. I think they are ready to turn the corner.
- Buffalo looks decent and Terrell Owens may actually start to help them sooner or later. Getting Lynch back will give them a good backfield when he joins Jackson.
- Tennessee just isn’t as bad as their 0-2 record looks, but they miss Albert Haynesworth.
- Miami needs to worry less about the trick plays and give Brown and Williams the ball and turn em loose.
- The 0-2 Carolina Panthers have some good players but John Fox has lost the team, and the team has no heart.
- Seattle was one of my picks to have a good season but they have shown me nothing much so far. Thus they are low on the week 2 NFL power rankings.
- Washington made a mistake in hiring Jim Zorn last season and are paying for it. The defense is decent but the O isn’t doing much.
- The Oakland Raiders at least have heart and a nice defense. Russell plays good 4th quarter ball but needs to be more accurate.
- Tampa Bay has the makings of a great run game but have a lot of holes.
- Kansas City shows brief flashes of good play but their coach has too many meltdowns on the sidelines
- St. Louis Rams- Stephen Jackson is about it.
- Jacksonville players have given up on Jack Del Rio and the owner will before the season ends.
The Detroit Lions are at least playing hard and will win a game soon. As a mater of fact I have them beating the Skins in week 3.
The Cleveland Browns have the worst coaching staff in the league and the players dislike them.
