Preview of Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens Playoff Game
January 8th 2012 17:29
This is my preview of the AFC Playoff Game between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore had a bye and the Texans stomped the Bengals to make it to this game.
The Houston Texans may be the surprise team in the playoffs. The Texans are down to their third quarterback in rookie T.J. Yates out of UNC. Yates went to the scouting combine to throw to receivers and not work out himself. Yet Yates has played well enough to win for the Texans. And backing up Yates are a couple of old timers in Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia.
For the Texans to knock off the Ravens they need more of the same we saw against the Bengals. Yates has to not turn the ball over, find Andre Johnson a few times and let the running game do the rest. Wade Phillips has the Texans defense playing at a high level and I think they can hold up their end of the stick against the Baltimore Ravens.
For the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Houston Texans in the playoffs then Ray Rice has to have a big day. For some reason Rice was left out of the game plan a few times this season, he can’t be in the playoffs.
Joe Flacco has to play well to prove he is an elite NFL quarterback, which I don’t think he is. Flacco hasn’t proven much in big games and throws a few too many interceptions in my book. But if Flacco can get a lead over the Texans and force Yates to pass, then the Ravens should win the game.
The Baltimore Ravens defense is tough but aging and the week off should do them some good. Ray Lewis and especially Ed Reed know this may be their last shot to win another Super Bowl ring so expect them to be hyped up.
My prediction for the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans is that the Ravens win 23 to 17. I think the Ravens will confuse Yates into a couple of turnovers and that will seal the Texans fate.
