Preview of playoff game between Texans and Bengals
January 3rd 2012 00:24
This is a preview of the 2012 AFC Wild Card Playoff game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans. Houston took advantage of the Colts being without Peyton Manning but lost two quarterbacks of their own in route to the playoffs. Cincinnati dealt with the loss of Carson Palmer and Ochocinco by replacing them with rookies Andy Dalton and A.J. Green.
The Cincinnati Bengals bring in a very average offense to take on the Houston Texans. The Bengals rank 20th in passing yards and 19th in rushing offense. The Bengals defense is considerably better ranking 9th and 10th in defending the pass and run respectively.
The Houston Texans have the 2nd best rushing offense in the NFL and had two great running backs in Arian Foster and Ben Tate. The Texans defense got them to the playoffs and rank 3rd and 4th against the run and the pass.
The Texans lost a lot of firepower when Matt Schaub was lost for the season. Matt Leinart didn’t even finish his first start before being lost for the season as well. T.J. Yates played very well for a rookie that only went to the scouting combine to throw passes to show off wide receivers.
Yates is a little banged up himself so I look for Coach Kubiack to pull him if he starts to struggle. Jake Delhomme played well in relief of Yates in mop up duty in the last regular season game. Delhomme was a turnover machine in Carolina and Cleveland but players like him and he is capable of winning with a run first team.
The Bengals will try to take an early lead and make the Texans beat them via the airwaves. If Houston can control the clock with their excellent defense then the Texans can stay in the game.
My prediction for the Bengals and Texans wildcard game is the Houston wins 17 to 14.
