This is a preview of the NFC playoff game featuring the Atlanta Falcons at the New York Giants. The Falcons went all in with a trade to draft Julio Jones that will hurt their future. The Giants battled injuries and inconstant play all year to get it together late and make the playoffs.
The Falcons have made the switch from a power running team to a passing team with Matt Ryan, Dez White and Julio Jones. The Falcons offense ranks 8th in passing and 17th in rushing for the 2011 NFL season. The Atlanta Falcons defense can stop the run and rank 6th but rank 20th against the pass.
The Atlanta Falcons will try to strike deep to Jones and work intermediate routes to Dez White and Tony Gonzalez. Expect to see a lot of Michael Turner as well who had a great season but may be wearing down a bit. The Falcon offensive line is a little weak and gave up 26 sacks.
Despite the New York Giants reputation as a running team, they don’t do that very well. The Giants rank last in the NFL at running the ball. However the New York Giants pass well and rank 5th in passing yards. The Giants defense got old and banged up ranking 29th against the pass and 19th against the run.
Eli Manning had what I think was his best season and established himself as a elite NFL quarterback. The Giants will try to double team Abraham because he provides the only pass rush the Falcons can muster. Victor Cruz is a beast and established a good playing relationship with Manning.
My prediction for the Giants and Falcons playoff game is that Atlanta will win 28 to 24. I just think the Falcon offense is much better than the Giants defense at this point in the season.
