Top 5 quarterbacks in the 2009 NFL draft
February 9th 2009 17:48
With the 2009 NFL draft quickly approaching a lot of sports fans are wondering who will be picked where. We visit mock drafts and put in our two cents and we rank the future rookies. Being a football writer this is a fun time of year for me. This article will rank the top 5 quarterbacks in the 2009 NFL draft. You may not agree with my quarterback rankings so feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this article. Also check my profile for other 2009 NFL draft player rankings, mock drafts and other football articles.
1 Matthew Stafford JR Georgia
Stafford has similar size to Sanchez at 6ft 3 and 228 pounds and is another junior. I think he and Sanchez both came out to avoid being 3rd or 4th round picks in the 2010 draft. Stafford has a better arm and more experience than Sanchez.
2 Mark Sanchez JR USC
Sanchez is the best quarterback in the 2009 NFL draft even though he is only a junior in college. Coach Pete Carroll was not pleased to lose Sanchez and pouted like a little kid at the press conference.
Mark Sanchez will be picked for his potential rather than hoping for a Matt Ryan type of season. At 6ft 3 and 225 pounds Sanchez has the size he needs to play in the National Football League. But having only started one full season for USC, Sanchez is very raw. However given the time to learn he can be very good, justifying his position on the top 5 quarterbacks in the 2009 NFL draft.
3 Josh Freeman JR Kansas State
I love Freeman’s size at 6ft 6 inches tall and around 240 pounds. Freeman started well but melted down towards the end of the 2008 college football season. Freeman needs a good quarterbacks coach and a couple of seasons on the pine,
4 Rhett Bomar SR Sam Houston State
I love the fact that he is a SR and thus has more experience than some of these juniors. He is a tad short at 6ft 2 but I think in the right system he can be effective.
5 Nate Davis JR Ball State
Davis is another relative shorty at 6ft 2 but Drew Brees is no giant in the NFL. Davis played well against MAC teams but tanked against BCS teams. Davis concludes my top 5 quarterbacks in the 2009 draft list.
