I must say (and it pains me) well done to the Newton-Conover (North Carolina) Red Devils for winning the 2008 2A State Football Title. The Red Devils defeated Tarboro 51 to 28 to win the State Title.
Many eons ago I attended Bunker Hill High School which considered Newton-Conover our biggest rival. At the time I was there, our school had never defeated the Red Devils despite playing them every season for many years. Old feelings die hard but I am proud a school from Catawba County won the 2A State Football Championship.
Another school in this county produced Former Carolina Panther (among other teams) Shane Burton, he attended Bandys High School. And the team we ALL hated, the Maiden Blue Devils produced Oklahoma Offensive Coordinator Kevin Wilson.
