I guess the 'Skins aren't for real!

October 14th 2008 00:00
The other day I asked if the Washington Redskins are for real. Over the weekend they showed they still have to achieve a lot of maturity if they're going to be an NFL power. I know, one game doesn't make a season but losing to the St. Louis Rams 19-17 caught a lot of people off guard; myself included. To be a truly good team you have to win the games you're supposed to win. You can't even say they were looking ahead. Are we to believe they were looking ahead to Cleveland, Detroit, or maybe Pittsburgh? It would be a stretch to believe they're looking ahead all the way to November 16 when they play Dallas again.

And while I'm thinking NFL--waddya think of those Bradyless Pats? It's not every day the Patriots get beaten 30-10. That's a little more respectable than when I fell asleep. It was 30-3 then! I dosed off in (I think) the fourth quarter. I don't think I missed a whole lot!

You mean you asked me a question about football, just hold it there, James, I'm googling like mad to find the answer, I'm sure coming up with some funny things on google.

But just hang on there and I'll get back to you. Cheers.

OK - so I'm an Aussie - what would they know - half a world away and playing a brand of football (well three kinds actually) that don't involve helmets, shoulder or arm pads - in fact any kind of armour at all.

That said - I still find the game fascinating - going back to the days when as a kid I thought the Packers were the ants pants and I actually read the Joe Willie story as an eight year old - though you guys really have to find a way to have so many stoppages in the game.

What's with the Browns getting over the Giants anyway?

Stay well fella

Joe Willie???? It's a shame that Ausies didn't have the pleasure a few years ago of seeing a drunk Joe Namath try to sneak a kiss from one of the sideline reporters. ( I forget WHO but female!!!!) AND I believe the first Monday Night football was a Jets-Browns game. I THINK. Sounds like I know what I'm talking about, doesn't it????

The Bowns upset of the Giants??? I'm not surprised. Last year the Browns were 10-6 but failed to make the playoffs. This year they've been one of the most hyped teams in the NFL but also one of the biggest disappointments. As is often the case, a team with so much talent and promise breaks out against a really good team like the Giants. In a nutshell, this is the way the Browns should play all the time. Can they sustain that momentum? it's gonna be tough because they've already dug themselves into a hole but, there are still several games to be played and I'm one of those believers in the phrase "...on any given Sunday." Their record doesn't leave much wiggle room for mistakes, but I would like to see them make the playoffs as, at least, a wild card.
