Review of "Woo Mercy" A Jimmy Valiant DVD

December 15th 2011 00:23
Ok I know this is a football blog but many of us football fans have been or are pro wrestling fans as well. And when I watched “Woo Mercy” I found out that Jimmy Valiant’s first athletic career was as a semi pro football player. I recently bought a copy of a DVD about Valiant and thought I would write a review.

This is a review of "Woo Mercy The Jimmy Valiant Experience" DVD from EllBow Productions. This DVD covers the career of Jimmy "Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant in professional wrestling.
As my normal readers know I mostly write football articles but I sometimes write about old school wrestling. I was a huge fan of wrestling before it got so silly in the 90's and beyond.

And my friends a talk of old school pro wrestling would be incomplete without mention of Jimmy Valiant. My best memory of Jimmy Valiant was him calling Kabuki a "Mother Bleeper" on a house microphone during a match in the Newton Conover (North Carolina) high school gym.

I got a kick out of "Woo Mercy" mentioning the feud between Jimmy Valiant and Kabuki among the other rivalries the "Boogie Woogie Man's" career in pro wrestling. Another thing I liked was the photos of many wrestling magazine covers that Valiant was on. I was an avid collector of wrestling magazines and had many of the ones shown.
The fact that Bill Apter is seen quite a bit in "Woo Mercy The Jimmy Valiant Experience" was a huge plus for me. Apter was the man when it came to wrestling magazines back in the day
.
Apter is joined on the video by Tommy 'Wildfire" Rich, Jim Cornette and Ricky Morton among others who talk about Jimmy Valiant's career. And of course Jimmy Valiant himself is prominent in the video and gives some candid comments about his life and career.

I felt a little old school as Valiant often referred to events as if they were real in wrestling and not "Fake." I got a nice wrestling history lesson from "Woo Mercy" as Valiant's start from being a barber to becoming a wrestler and information about all the companies he worked for was shared.

I didn't know Dick "The Bruiser" was a power behind the scenes and not just a wrestler. Jimmy Valiant discussing all the promotions and how they operated was very interesting.

"Woo Mercy The Jimmy Valiant Experience" was a good wrestling documentary even for a casual fan of Valiant such as myself. My fiancée was a huge fan of the "Boogie Woogie" man and loved the video. She even falsely claimed Jimmy Valiant is still better looking than I am! Die hard fans will enjoy this documentary about Jimmy Valiant and it will give you a little dose of old school pro wrestling. You can order the DVD from EllBow Productions by clicking this link. My review is of a DVD that I bought and not a free copy for review purposes.
