Shockers from the 2009 NFL draft

April 26th 2009 00:46
One shocker of the 2009 draft was Everette Brown falling into the 2nd round where the Panthers traded up to get him. Thought by some to be one of the best defensive ends in the 2009 NFL draft, the Panthers couldn’t risk him falling to their 59th pick. With Julius Peppers probably going to hold out, the Panthers needed defensive line help in the worst way.

Another surprise has been the selection of West Virginia quarterback Pat White in the 2nd round by the Miami Dolphins. White is projected by most to play wide receiver in the NFL and the Dolphins didn’t need a quarterback. That shows they are going to continue to use the Wildcat offense and use White in that role.

The Cleveland Browns and New York Jets were able to cut a deal to let the Jets move up to draft Mark Sanchez. The Browns and Patriots seemed to be in a race to drop down in the picking order. Another shocker from the 2009 NFL draft was the Minnesota Vikings drafting druggie Percy Harvin after proclaiming they were going after character players.

Denver stupidly took Knowshon Moreno with the 12th pick in the 2009 NFL draft despite needed defensive help badly. The Lions instead of improving their defense gave Matthew Stafford a target in tight end Brandon Pettigrew. Those were the shocking events so far in the 2009 NFL draft.

I like the Wildcat package and think that White and the Dolphins may be successful with it. I'm justjust glad that the Titans took a receiver instead of waiting to see who might get cut later. That has burned them in the past. I was glad to see Michael Oher go to a decent team.

Yeah I like where Oher ended up as well, and the Titans did need a wide receiver badly.
