Some Storylines for the Super Bowl

February 5th 2010 20:14
When it comes to the Super Bowl, there are several different components to be looked upon. New Orleans is going in for the first time and for the life of me, I can't think of another major team in Louisiana that has been in a championship game. The Hornets have never done it in the NBA, even when they were in Charlotte. If there is one, I can't think of the team off-hand. That's another matter. There are some key storylines for the Super Bowl.

Can New Orleans go into the Super Bowl and shock the world so to speak? Nobody is expecting them to win it all. They've had some terrible moments and that just doesn't include on the field but off the field. I heard this on TV and I believe it was on STO about 57% of the Nation is pulling for the Saints. Without question, they are an underdog and a feel good story.

Brees is 3-2 as a starter in the post-season making his first appearance. For the Saints to win, they're going to have play like they may never get back again. That means going all out and giving the Colts everything they got. They are also known to pull out victories out of nowhere. In other words, it would be like snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

For the Colts, they are the favorite. It has been a trend in sports that the favorites have been winning lately in the biggest games possible. Maybe not by as much as originally thought but still winning regardless. Well, maybe except the NHL 'cause I don't believe the Penguins were the favorites to beat the Red Wings but that's another story. The Lakers winning the NBA Title would be an example of a favorite and so would the Yankees winning the World Series and even last year with the Steelers winning.

Peyton Manning is 9-8 in the post-season lifetime. He does have a Super Bowl ring for his career and is attempting to get a second one. For him to get another, he's going to have to pass at a really good rate. The story for him would be can he get another Super Bowl ring and move one step closer to the Hall of Fame, not that he won't get there if he doesn't win the Super Bowl.

Can the Colts get another Super Bowl with Manning making it their second in four years? It remains to be seen. The game itself has the potential to be exciting provided that it can really put together a real shoot out. In fact, they could even have this game be a potential overtime game.

I just hope the Super Bowl is going to be entertaining and that's all I can say on that.
